Carrie TV Series Hits Prime Video with All 4 Past Films

Amazon Prime Video has premiered a new television series adaptation of Stephen King's 1974 horror novel Carrie in Spain, alongside the streaming release of all four previous feature film adaptations.

The eight-episode first season, created by horror director Mike Flanagan, is available for streaming subscribers as part of a planned three-season project. Prime Video has also added the complete movie catalogue of the franchise to its platform in Spain, allowing viewers to stream every previous screen adaptation included with standard subscription access.

The launch marks the latest screen version of King's debut book, which was published in 1974 and has since spawned an original theatrical feature, a direct cinema sequel, a television movie, and a 2013 film remake.

New Television Series by Mike Flanagan

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan, known for horror series such as The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher, structured the new Carrie production as a three-season series. The newly released first season consists of eight episodes with running times ranging between 48 minutes and 55 minutes, all released simultaneously on Prime Video for weekend binge-watching.

Based on King's novel, the series follows Carrie White, an outcast high school student who spent her life secluded under the strict protection of her mother. After her world changes drastically following the unexpected death of her father, Carrie is forced to enter public school. There, she encounters a viral harassment scandal while dealing with the relentless pressures of the social media era.

Her struggles coincide with the sudden awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers, leading daily choices toward a single devastating night. Summer H. Howell stars in the title role as Carrie White, alongside Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret White.

The main ensemble cast also features Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.

Original 1976 Classic Film

The first adaptation of King's novel was released in theatres in 1976 under the title Carrie, directed by Brian De Palma and starring Sissy Spacek as Carrie White. The film depicts a young student subjected to constant harassment by classmates while living under the watchful eye of her deeply religious mother. Carrie discovers she possesses telekinetic powers, culminating in one of the most famous climaxes in horror cinema history.

De Palma's movie remains the highest-rated adaptation of the story on major review platforms, holding a 7 out of 10 score on FilmAffinity and a 7.2 out of 10 rating on IMDb.

The 1999 Sequel The Rage Carrie 2

The second film in the franchise, titled The Rage: Carrie 2, arrived in cinemas in 1999. Rather than remaking the original story, the picture serves as a direct sequel set years after the events of the 1976 movie. Emily Bergl stars as Rachel Lang, a teenager who also possesses telekinetic powers while navigating conflicts at high school.

Actress Amy Irving reprises her role as Sue Snell from the 1976 original, creating a direct storyline link between the two productions. The sequel is the least known entry in the film series and failed to receive passing scores on major review aggregator sites, averaging 3.7 out of 10 on FilmAffinity and 4.8 out of 10 on IMDb.

Television Film and 2013 Remake

A third adaptation reached audiences in 2002 as a television movie starring Angela Bettis in the role of Carrie White. Returning directly to King's original book, the production centers on an outcast adolescent facing peer bullying, maternal pressure, and her emerging telekinetic abilities. The TV movie received critical ratings similar to the 1999 sequel, earning 4.7 out of 10 on FilmAffinity and 5.4 out of 10 on IMDb.

The most recent movie version prior to the new series was released in theatres in 2013 under the direction of Kimberly Peirce. Chloë Grace Moretz portrayed Carrie White, with Julianne Moore playing her mother, Margaret White. The film updated elements of the narrative for modern audiences while preserving the core plot of high school harassment, maternal influence, and telekinetic destruction. The 2013 release recorded average ratings of 5 out of 10 on FilmAffinity and 5.8 out of 10 on IMDb.

All four feature films and the new Mike Flanagan series are available to stream in Spain on Amazon Prime Video.
