Spanish comedian Carlos Latre has traveled to Zanzibar with his daughter following his divorce from wife Yolanda Marcos after 25 years together.
The separation was reported on Wednesday by Spanish magazine Semana, which revealed that the couple had decided to part ways and begin formal divorce proceedings.
Latre built his career as an impressionist, monologist, and television presenter, supported professionally by Marcos, who served as his business manager. Though their marriage has ended, the pair plan to continue working side by side at the production company they established together.
Silence from the couple
Neither Latre nor Marcos has publicly offered details regarding the reasons for the split. The couple married in 2004 and previously experienced a two-year separation following a marital crisis in 2015 before reuniting.
Acquaintances noted Latre's sadness over the breakup, while highlighting the composure of both partners as they continue their joint work for the benefit of their 20-year-old daughter, Candela.
Speaking to magazine Hola over the telephone, Marcos stated that the couple did not wish to talk about the separation. She added that they had never made public statements about their personal lives and intended to keep it that way to face their new stage with discretion.
During their previous split in 2015, Latre discussed their relationship with host Risto Mejide on the television show Viajando con Chester. He explained at the time that he had lost his sense of identity and chose to leave because his personal and television growth had occurred entirely within a relationship. Regarding the current separation, he has preferred not to elaborate on what caused the marriage to fail.
Escape to East Africa
To avoid media attention in Spain following news of the divorce, Latre traveled to Zanzibar on an international trip with his daughter Candela. Zanzibar is a tropical archipelago located off the coast of East Africa in Tanzania.
Candela, who is studying Audiovisual Communication and Performing Arts while working in radio and as a content creator, broke the family silence by posting updates from the trip on social media. Her posts included photos from Zanzibar airport and scenes of the pair relaxing on the beach.
In her online posts, Candela asked her followers why she should not take a getaway with her father, explaining that they simply packed their bags and traveled. She promised to share more details of their African adventure in the coming days and asked her audience if they would like a full recap of the trip.
