Bryan Johnson Refuses to Share Bed With Girlfriend Kate Tolo

American millionaire Bryan Johnson has confirmed he refuses to sleep in the same bed as his girlfriend Kate Tolo after four years together.

The technology entrepreneur explained his decision in a message to subscribers, which was reported by the New York Post newspaper. Johnson stated that maintaining healthy sleep is one of the most critical factors for longevity, while sleep disruption accelerates the aging process.

Johnson confirmed that he and Tolo maintain separate beds and have never slept together in the same bed during their entire four-year relationship. He added that he has no intention of sharing a bed with Tolo for the foreseeable future.

Sleep Research and Longevity Claims

To justify his sleeping arrangements, Johnson cited a 2020 study involving 55 couples. The research found that partners sharing a bed woke up an average of six times per night, a level of disturbance that the millionaire described as unacceptable for health preservation.

However, Johnson acknowledged that other scientific studies present contrasting findings. Some research suggests that married couples sleeping together actually achieve better rest, including a 10 percent extension in their rapid eye movement sleep phase.

Rapid eye movement, or REM sleep, is a critical phase of the sleep cycle associated with high brain activity, vivid dreaming, and cognitive recovery. Sleep scientists consider adequate REM sleep essential for memory consolidation and emotional regulation.

Johnson also noted findings from somnologists, who are medical specialists specializing in sleep health. According to sleep researchers, women generally experience poorer sleep quality when sharing a bed, whereas men tend to sleep better alongside a partner.

In light of the conflicting data, Johnson wrote that overall sleep quality ultimately depends on the individual couple. He noted that while co-sleeping improves rest quality for some people, separate beds can preserve both sleep and relationships for others, concluding that both outcomes are possible.

Rise of the Sleep Divorce Trend

The decision to maintain separate sleeping quarters aligns with a growing social phenomenon in the United States known as a sleep divorce. The New York Post reported that a 2023 survey revealed approximately 35 percent of American couples now sleep separately, either occasionally or on a permanent basis.

This is not the first time Johnson has drawn attention for health-focused decisions involving his partner. In May, it was reported that Johnson had begun conducting medical experiments on Tolo, claiming she would become the most studied woman on the planet.

Johnson has built a public profile around extreme anti-aging protocols, rigorous biological tracking, and longevity experiments. He routinely shares details of his health routine, diet, and physiological data with online followers as part of his efforts to reverse biological aging.
