Blade Runner interactive experience set for 2027 launch

A new interactive multisensory experience based on the Blade Runner franchise will launch in North America in 2027, expanding the sci-fi brand into new media formats.

Blade Runner is one of Ridley Scott's most recognized science fiction works.

Media company Alcon Entertainment is developing the project, titled Blade Runner: The Immersive Experience, in collaboration with video game studio Behaviour Interactive and creative team PHI Studio. Producers describe the initiative as a visually striking project with a rich narrative designed to immerse audiences in the dystopian vision of the franchise.

Behaviour Interactive and PHI Studio confirmed that additional details regarding the project will be released in the coming months. The initial launch window is scheduled for North America in 2027, although developers have not clarified whether the experience will later expand worldwide or remain exclusive to that region.

Expansion into new media formats

The upcoming interactive title forms part of a broader strategy by rights holder Alcon Entertainment to move the franchise beyond traditional cinema. The project follows the recent announcement of a Blade Runner role-playing game, alongside an upcoming television series produced for Prime Video.

The Prime Video television series is planned as a sequel to the feature films, featuring a time jump of 50 years following the events of the previous movie. Producers intend for the show to build upon the foundation of the cinematic series as the brand expands into fresh entertainment formats.

Commercial history and cultural legacy

Despite its standing as a landmark of science fiction, the Blade Runner franchise has historically struggled to achieve commercial box office success. Neither the original film nor subsequent releases generated high theatrical revenue, creating a contrast between ticket sales and critical recognition.

British filmmaker Ridley Scott launched the cinematic universe in 1982 with the original Blade Runner movie, drawing inspiration from author Philip K. Dick and his 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The original film starred Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a detective hunting bioengineered synthetic humans known as replicants in a dystopian Los Angeles.

The franchise continued on screen with Denis Villeneuve's 2017 feature sequel Blade Runner 2049, produced by Alcon Entertainment. Canadian developer Behaviour Interactive is best known for creating multiplayer video games, while PHI Studio specializes in immersive art installations and virtual reality experiences.

Creators state that Blade Runner: The Immersive Experience will offer fans a new way to interact with the growing universe. Further details on technical specifications and venue locations are expected to be announced by Behaviour Interactive and PHI Studio later this year.
