Sergei Bezrukov has posted voice studio photos on social media showing him dubbing his character in the new TV series “Hard to Be a God,” based on the Strugatsky brothers’ novel. He plays Don Kondor, an experienced intelligence officer.
Bezrukov said the character interpretation by screenwriter Ilya Zolotarev and director Dmitry Tyurin was very interesting.
He recalled that the first Strugatsky book he read as a teenager was “Monday Starts on Saturday,” which he found both funny and meaningful, though he did not fully grasp all its ideas at the time. He has since read nearly all of the brothers’ work.
He said he does not consider himself a fan of science fiction or fantasy, but the Strugatskys stand apart for their distinctive humor, more precisely self-irony. This quality, he said, makes even their most idealized characters feel like real people rather than stereotypes. He also expressed curiosity about what meanings younger generations would find in the brothers’ work today.
