Hair biowave: pros and cons. Should I repeat Irina Shayk and Bella Hadid’s hairstyle?

Hair biowave: pros and cons. Should I repeat Irina Shayk and Bella Hadid’s hairstyle?

Perm is a teleport to the 70s and 80s for most of us. Small curls like the afro were the trendiest hairstyle of the time. They dreamed, they did, but sooner or later they regretted it. Having done such a manipulation once, I did not want to repeat it, because the hair dried out and broke. Therefore, the perm trend in the late 90s came to naught. But now, with the rise of Y2K style, curls are back in business. Bella Hadid, Irina Shayk and Blake Lively were recently spotted with such a hairstyle.

Now there is a new, gentler analogy of the perm procedure – biowave. Therefore, we decided to find out what the difference is and how it affects the hair. Daviani Beauty & Spa hairdresser Tatyana Chudnovets and Kultura hairdresser’s master Stas Gerasimov helped us with this.

How is the biowave procedure performed?

The procedure takes place in several stages. Both hair stylists highlight the following.

The first step is hair preparation. A special shampoo is applied for deep cleaning and cuticle opening.

The second stage is the formation of a curl. Curling irons of the desired diameter are optionally selected. After that, the strands are alternately wound on curlers.

The third stage is the application of the composition. When all the hair is wound on curlers, a special composition is applied to create curls.

The fourth stage is the application of the neutralizer. Without opening the curlers, the previous composition is washed off the hair. Next, a neutralizing agent is applied, which stops the process of curl formation.

The fifth stage is the finish. After all formulations are washed off, a moisturizing conditioner is applied, aimed at restoring the hair’s natural pH balance. After the installation is done.

What is the difference between biowave and chemical?

Stas Gerasimov says that the main difference between a biowave and a chemical one is the composition. “There is no ammonia and thioglycolic acid. In Biowave, the main component is cystamine. It works very carefully with the structure of the hair, does not destroy the disulfide bonds, but stretches them. Plus, the procedure isn’t permanent,” she explains.

Tatyana Chudnovets, hairstylist at DAVIANI Beauty & Spa adds: “The prefix “Bio” means that the product is environmentally friendly and has at least 60% natural composition. Also, in the 80s and 90s girls loved strong curls and now trends we remember that it dictates more relaxed and natural curls, so that no one guesses that this is a perm.

How long does the effect of Biowave last?

On average, two to nine months. How long the hair will be curly depends on the shape of the curling iron and the strands. The stronger the curl, the longer the effect lasts. The calmer it is, the shorter the time to wear such a hairstyle.

Biowave: pros and cons

Opinions of experts on whether it is still worth doing a biowave are divided. For this reason, we give the word to both of them and leave the final decision to you. Let there be a war!

Is the composition used for biowave harmful?

Stas Gerasimov: The composition is absolutely harmless, as it does not contain aggressive alkalis. Also, a neutralizer containing collagen is used at the end of the process. It nourishes the hair and there is a feeling that the strands have become better than before.

Tatyana Chudnovets: Modern biowave products contain at least 60% natural ingredients, but you need to understand that this is still a chemical effect on the hair.

What happens to the hair after the biowave procedure?

Stas Gerasimov: Hair becomes more porous, so they hold styling better. Even after the curls are opened and the texture of the hair becomes the same, a slight wave may remain for a while.

Tatyana Chudnovets: After the procedure, the hair becomes dry, and the structure is porous. This can lead to breakage and split ends.

Is there any hair for which Biowave is contraindicated?

Stas Gerasimov: Yes, there is – clarified and weak. Also, you cannot perm your hair after keratin straightening and botox.

Tatyana Chudnovets: The most important contraindication to perm is pregnancy. Hypersensitivity of the skin, allergic reactions, exacerbated skin diseases, repeated aggressive staining, discoloration – all this is also a contraindication.

Does the hair need special care after the biowave procedure?

Stas Gerasimov: You just need to understand that porous hair loves moisture. For this reason, you should choose a sulfate-free shampoo, silicone-free conditioner and use a conditioner for curls.

Tatyana Chudnovets: I recommend not using hot stylers and using the hair dryer only at cold or medium air temperature. In addition, it is better to replace the usual comb with a wide-toothed comb or remove the curls with your hands.

Final Argument

Stas Gerasimov: Biowave is a cool and harmless experiment with hair. It has no negative consequences and you end up with a cool, curly texture.

Tatyana Chudnovets: Although the biowaving procedure is gentle, it changes the structure of the hair and affects its quality. After that, the strands require more careful treatment and care as they become drier and more brittle.
