Nature, barbecue and May holidays are three inseparable concepts. The only thing that disrupts a quiet rest is a buzz above the ear. The first wave of mosquitoes occurs at the beginning of May, when the air temperature changes from minus to plus. What to take to nature to protect yourself from insect bites? How to remove inflammation if the mosquito turns out to be smarter than you?
How do you protect yourself from insect bites?
There are several ways to protect against mosquitoes – folk methods and modern ones. The first are essential oils, the smell of which repels insects well. Lavender, geranium, clove, vanilla, citronella, eucalyptus and anise are your main helpers. Since essential oils are very concentrated, they should not be applied directly to the skin. They are usually dissolved in a small amount of base oil (jojoba or avocado) and only then used for their intended purpose. For those who do not want to make their own, many brands have ready-to-use rollers and sprays. It is enough to apply a small amount of product to the open areas of the skin (wrists, neck, ankles).

Protective products in the form of creams, ointments or gels basically have the same blends of essential oils, but differ in a lighter, non-oily texture. Unlike sprays, ointments contain a higher concentration of active ingredients. However, the spray can be applied to clothing to prevent the fabric from biting.

How to remove inflammation from a bite?
If the mosquito still won this game, and the bite is already visible on the body, it’s time to switch to plan “B” – eliminating inflammation. The usual itching and redness can be minimized on your own in several ways:
– Apply cold to the inflamed area. From exposure to low temperature, the vessels narrow and it is more difficult for toxic components to enter the bloodstream.
– Make a compress from a semi-alcoholic solution (alcohol with water 1: 1).
– Wash the bitten area with a solution of water and baking soda.
– Apply an ointment with a cooling and anti-inflammatory effect. Typically, menthol and soothing essential oils are added to such creams.

When is it time to see a doctor?
In most cases, mosquito bites do not pose a serious health threat. But some may develop varying degrees of allergic reaction:
– If severe swelling is observed at the site of the bite without other accompanying symptoms, the use of anti-allergic ointments or drugs on the recommendation of the attending physician will help.
– In addition to swelling, if you feel difficulty in breathing, facial swelling, itchy blisters on the skin, swelling and fever, you should consult a doctor immediately.
