Aubrey Plaza has been seen in public for the first time since giving birth to her first child with boyfriend Christopher Abbott. The actress, 42, was spotted on Sunday holding her newborn baby to her chest as she stepped out with her family in New York City.
Plaza arrived at the Winter Garden Theatre in Manhattan to support Abbott, 40, at his final performance in the Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman. The outing marked her first public sighting since she was pictured with her baby bump two weeks earlier on Sunday, July 26.
Dressed for the warm summer day, Plaza wore a black tank top, sunglasses, baggy jeans, and black slip-on sneakers. The Parks and Recreation alum went without makeup and pulled her dark hair back into a high ponytail.
Plaza smiled as she attentively watched a family member who also took turns holding the baby. Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Plaza for comment.
Motherhood and Pregnancy Announcement
This is the first child for both Plaza and Abbott. The White Lotus star first confirmed her pregnancy in April, with People reporting at the time that she was due to give birth in the fall.
A source told People in April that the pregnancy was "a beautiful surprise after an emotional year." During an appearance on The View that same month, Plaza spoke about taking on motherhood.
When asked on The View if she was excited about becoming a first-time mother, Plaza said, "I am. Yeah, I've always wanted to see what that's all about, you know?"
Relationship and Career Collaborations
Plaza and Abbott were friends for many years before their relationship turned romantic in 2025. Following the arrival of their baby, a source said the couple are feeling "very blessed."
The couple met in 2019 on the set of the indie psychological drama Black Bear, in which both actors played dual roles as actors and directors attempting to shoot a film at an eerie, isolated lake house. The low-budget thriller premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020 to critical acclaim, with several reviewers singling it out as one of Plaza's best performances to date.
In 2023, Plaza and Abbott collaborated again on stage in the Off Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley's play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, which ran until January 2024. Abbott is best known for playing the on and off boyfriend of Allison Williams's character Marnie on Lena Dunham's HBO comedy series Girls.
Personal History and Late Husband
The news of her baby comes nearly two years after Plaza became estranged from her late husband, screenwriter Jeff Baena. Baena died by suicide in January 2025.
An LA County Medical Examiner's autopsy report obtained by DailyMail.com revealed that Plaza and the screenwriter had been separated since September 2024.
