Askhab Musayev, the son of former Makhachkala mayor Musa Musayev, died in a road accident in Thailand that left a 17-year-old Russian teenager in a coma.
The 17-year-old victim was riding as a passenger on a motorbike taxi on his way to meet friends during the night of October 5 when the fatal crash occurred. The violence of the impact threw the teenager onto the pavement, breaking his jaw and causing him to fall into a coma, while the driver of the motorbike taxi died from his injuries at the scene.

According to a report by the Telegram channel Mash, Musayev was identified as the driver responsible for causing the crash. Emergency responders found Musayev lifeless at the site of the collision alongside the deceased taxi driver. Associates close to Musayev stated that he frequently operated vehicles while intoxicated, suggesting he may have been under the influence of alcohol during the journey. A forensic medical examination will establish his sobriety level in the near future.
The teenager was initially reported missing in Phuket on October 5 after setting out on the motorbike taxi to meet his friends. He failed to reach his destination and stopped responding to calls and messages from family members and acquaintances. Search efforts ended the following day when he was located unconscious in a hospital, where medical teams are currently preparing him to undergo a second surgery.
Motorbike transit and tourist safety in Phuket
Phuket is Thailand's largest island, situated in the Andaman Sea off the country's southwestern coast. The island province is a prominent global travel destination that attracts millions of international visitors annually, including significant numbers of holidaymakers from Russia. Motorbike taxis represent a standard form of public transit in Thai resort towns, providing fast transport through heavy traffic, though night riding carries heightened risks of road casualties.
Makhachkala is the capital and main urban centre of Dagestan, a republic located in the North Caucasus region of southern Russia along the shore of the Caspian Sea. Musa Musayev previously held office as the mayor of Makhachkala, overseeing municipal administration and local government operations in the city before his son's death abroad.
Forensic examination and upcoming proceedings
A formal forensic medical examination will determine whether Musayev was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal nighttime collision. Thai authorities and forensic specialists are conducting tests to finalize the official investigation into the exact sequence of events leading to the double fatal crash.
