A 20-year-old Argentine footballer died after his car struck a pole at high speed near the city of Cervantes on July 26, according to Qué Pasa Salta.
Santiago Nicolas Corazza played for Atletico y Sociedad Argentinos del Norte, based in the city of General Roca. His vehicle lost control, hit the pole and ejected him from the car. He was taken to hospital but could not be saved.
Corazza had started his career at Deportivo Roca and was considered one of the most talented young players in Rio Negro province. Clubs he had trained and played with, along with teammates, expressed condolences to his family. Police had not yet established the exact cause of the crash.
The accident followed a separate tragedy in Uruguay, where a young player for Deportivo Italiano of Montevideo suffered a heart attack on July 22 and also could not be saved by doctors.
