Famous animator John Musker, who worked on "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin," has criticized film remakes for failing to follow story logic. According to Musker, as quoted by El País, filmmakers have stopped following narrative logic and become caught up in existing messages.
"I think they overdid it. There needs to be some course correction in terms of keeping the message secondary to the show, a compelling story and compelling characters," John Musker said.
Script Quality and Adaptation Concerns
The creator of "Hercules" and "The Princess and the Frog" cited the film adaptation of "The Little Mermaid" as an example of the trend. Musker said the relationship dynamic between the main character and her father "sagged," though Sebastian the crab was graphically impressive.
Musker noted that diversity is not that important in animation. He added that creators have no right to sacrifice a high-quality script for the sake of the show, according to People Talk.
