The three metro systems operating in Andalusia, Spain, set a ridership record in the first half of 2026, carrying more than 32 million passengers between January and June, according to the regional Ministry of Development and Mobility.
The combined total for the Seville, Malaga, and Granada metro networks reached 32,374,877 passengers, a 3.7 percent increase over the same period in 2025 and roughly 1.5 million additional riders year on year.
Mario Munoz-Atanet, the regional minister for development and mobility, said the figures were a clear example of how Andalusia's metro systems had become central to urban mobility in the region's major cities, thanks to passenger trust. He also said recent satisfaction surveys had rated the service highly, and that the goal remained continuous improvement in both service quality and line extensions.
Seville Leads Growth
The Seville Metro, which has been in commercial service since April 2009, recorded the largest year-on-year growth and the highest overall ridership of the three networks. Its Line 1 carried 13,320,792 passengers in the first half of 2026, a 5.6 percent increase over the same period in 2025 and more than 700,000 additional riders.
The Malaga Metro came close to ten million passengers in the same period, recording 9,953,379 trips. That represents 279,042 additional journeys compared with the first half of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 2.88 percent. The Malaga network entered commercial service in July 2014 and was extended to the historic city center at Atarazanas in March 2023.
The Granada Metro, in commercial service since September 2017, surpassed nine million passengers with 9,160,565 trips, an increase of 152,339 additional journeys or 1.7 percent year on year.
Steady Demand Across Both Quarters
Ridership was broadly consistent across both quarters, with 16.03 million passengers recorded from January to March and 16.34 million from April to June. Across all three networks, the average exceeded five million passengers per month during the period.
