An Australian sandwich shop has been criticized for charging 20 cents for halving its famous banh mi sandwiches.
A photo posted on Reddit showed the Sydney Pork Rolls Vietnamese restaurant fare list in case customers wanted to add salad, chili, meat, ham, eggs, pate and extra mayonnaise.
Banh mi is traditionally a short baguette with a thin, crunchy crust and savory ingredients such as carrots and pickled cucumbers.
The Sydney store, which buys banh mi from Haymarket, costs between $5.50 and $8.50. Extra salad costs 50 cents, while extra meat, ham and eggs cost $1.50 more than the regular price.
Even an extra bag will cost you 10 cents, but it’s not clear why you should buy an extra bag.

WHAT IS BANH?
Banh mi is traditionally a short baguette with a thin, crunchy crust and savory ingredients such as carrots and pickled cucumbers.
At the bottom of the list is a 20-cent total surcharge, titled “halving the request roll,” and it has surprised goers with its uncertainty.
“How to halve it?” Reply to Reddit user. ‘Long roads? secondary roads? Think? There are too many questions here.
“Asking why it costs 20 cents to cut is 50 cents,” another said.
“With a two-second drop… that’s the equivalent of $360 an hour. I enter the world of sandwiches”, one comment reads.
“Are you going to cut that in half?” They must be wondering. another asks, “Would you like fries with this?” like a fast food worker selling food.
The sandwich bar told FEMAIL that the point of getting the extra 20 cents was that it takes time to cut sandwiches correctly.

“Are you going to cut that in half?” They must be wondering. Like a fast food worker asking, “Would you like fries with this?” said another.
“Having it in half due to staff shortages will take time, so it will cost us more in terms of uptime,” a spokesperson said.
“If we cut it in half, we pack it separately so the filling doesn’t spill, so it takes more time and an extra paper bag.”
Others on Reddit acknowledged the additional cost, saying the restaurant was within their right to charge.
‘By dividing it in half, the two halves are packed and packaged separately. “Charging the extra is totally reasonable,” wrote one user.
