The Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced the nominees in new categories: best feature film and first feature film. Variety reports this.
Five filmmakers were nominated for their achievements in feature film direction:
- Sean Baker (“Anora”);
- Brady Corbett (“Brutalist”);
- James Mangold (“Bob Dylan: Nobody”);
- Jacques Audiard (“Emilia Perez”);
- Edward Berger (Council of Cardinals).
Variety particularly highlights German director Edward Berger for his religious thriller “Conclave” and James Mangold for his biopic about Bob Dylan.
Awards in the best debut category:
- Megan Park (“My Old Ass”);
- Halfdan Ulman Tendel (“Arman”);
- Payal Kapadia (“All That Looks Like Light”);
- Sean Wang (“Little Brother”);
- RaMell Ross (“Nickel’s Kids”).
“2024 has been a truly unique year for cinema. This year’s nominees delivered bold, original films that raise the bar for artistic excellence,” said DGA President Leslie Linka Glatter.
Meanwhile, DGA had previously announced the contestants in the “Television” and “Documentary” categories. The leaders among the nominations were the TV series “Shogun”, “Bear” and “Penguin”, which received three nominations each. You can find the full list here.
