‘Stranger Things’: Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) on the racism he heard from some fans

The actor who plays Lucas Sinclair in ‘Stranger Things’, Caleb McLaughlin, recounted how his first experiences in the world of fame were after the international success of the Netflix series. Recently, McLaughlin recalled the racism manifested by some members of the fandom during the Heroes Comic-Con held in Belgium.

“It definitely hit me when I was a kid”, confessed the actor. “At my first Comic-Con, some people weren’t in my line because I was black. Some people said to me, ‘Oh, I didn’t want to be in your line because you were mean to Eleven.’ Even now, some people don’t follow me or support me because I’m black. Sometimes, abroad, racism is felt, intolerance is felt. Sometimes it is difficult to talk about it and for people to understand it, but when I was younger, it certainly struck me a lot “, revealed the interpreter during the aforementioned convention, opening up to the public.

The actor’s parents were also aware of the racism suffered by their son at the time: “My parents would tell me something like, ‘It’s a sad truth, but it’s because you’re the black guy on the show …’ I’m not loved because I was born with this beautiful chocolate skin. That’s why with my platform I want to spread positivity and love, because I don’t return hate to people who hate me “. McLaughlin reasoned.

Currently, McLaughlin is 20 years old and is still one of the stars of ‘Stranger Things’ along with his film partners Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Noah Schnapp (Will) and, from the latter season, Sadie Sink (Max). The actor wanted to add that he too did not understand why, at the premiere of the first season, it was the “least favorite” of all characters. Also, he wondered why he did this “fewer followers” in their networks despite being “in the same series as all the actors of the first season.”

Prepared for his return to “Stranger Things”

Following the success of the fourth season, the actors will return for the fifth and final season. It looks like Lucas got more popular after the fourth installment, so we’ll wait and see what happens in the next one. At the moment we don’t have a definitive release date, but we have news from the writers, who have already told us what phase the project was in, revealing interesting data such as the number of chapters that the closure of this already legendary series will have.
