Patrick Macmanus working on a new True Crime series for Peacock based on the VIGILANTE podcast

The actor turned writer/producer Patrick Macmanusbest known for the Peacock series Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy AND Doctor Deathhas another true crime story in the works. Macmanus is adapting the Vigilant podcast as a scripted series for streamer NBCUniversal.

Based on the Kast Media podcast, the series follows Tim Miller, a famous researcher and rescuer from Dickinson, Texas, who has helped track down hundreds of missing people. After 38 years of research, he is now convinced that he has finally solved the case of his daughter’s murder.

The story explores a father’s obsessive search for justice for his missing daughter, highlighting the devastating impact of loss and raising questions about the boundaries between justice and vigilantism, according to the plot.

The podcast, launching in 2022, was hosted by journalist and private investigator Allie Conti, who explores the human cost of Miller’s obsession with his daughter’s murder — from the people he falsely accused in the past to the current girlfriend he put in the crosshairs of a convicted killer.

Macmanus will write and executive produce alongside Ashley Michel Hoban, who served as showrunner on season two of Doctor Death, and Ahmadu Garba, writer and producer of series like Halo, Tales of The Walking Dead AND Doctor Death.

It’s Macmanus’ latest project for the streamer, which will launch its John Wayne Gacy series on October 16. Macmanus, which has a long-standing overall deal with UCP, was also behind Hulu. The girl from Plainville and it’s producing Squash for Peacock.

The latter, set in the world of tabloid talk shows, comes from creator Addison McQuigg and is developed with Elizabeth Banks’ Brownstone and Elliot Page’s Pageboy Productions, as well as UCP and Universal Television.
