Jeremy Allen White talks about his transformation into Rotta the Hutt in THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU

The Mandalorian and Grogu is taking Star Wars fans back to a galaxy far, far away, this time on the big screen. Din Djarin and Grogu’s next adventure will feature an interesting new character, who connects directly to one of the most famous crime families in the saga.

Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta the Hutt, is making his live-action debut, and is played by The bear star Jeremy Allen White.

Fans may remember Rotta as Huttlet’s baby The Clone Warsvoiced by David Accordbut this time he grew up and apparently grew up. White recently sat down with the Happy Sad Confused podcast to talk about how he landed the role, what it was like to enter the world of Star Wars, and how much his part has evolved since he first signed on.

“[Director Jon Favreau] it made him seem very cold. He was like, ‘You’re going to play Jabba the Hutt’s son.’ You’ll come in, it’s just voice stuff, you know, we’re not going to do any scanning, you’re not going to do any of that stuff. Come here for half a day and read some stuff.'”

“And I said, ‘Yes, absolutely.’ But they hadn’t shot any of the movie yet, really, so I’m just reading some stuff, trying to put it together,” he continued.

“I remember calling him the night before. I was watching some movies, getting ready, but I thought, ‘Is there anything in particular you want me to watch or really learn? Is there anything I should know?'”

“And he said, ‘No, come and do that thing.’ I thought ‘What kind of voice work do you want me to do?’ and I was doing some stuff, but he said, ‘We’re going to mess up!’ You know it. I haven’t seen the movie so it’s hard to talk about it too much,” the actor added.

A year later, Favreau called him back and that’s when things got a little more interesting.

“They made the movie and he said, ‘We’ve got other things for you to do,’” White explained. “And I think I realized that they really fleshed out that character a little bit and that I might be in that movie more than I initially thought.”

It has been reported that Rotta’s role may be more substantial than expected, possibly related The Mandalorian and Groguis the larger story about the shift in power in the galaxy after Jabba’s death. With rumors pointing to the Twins, Jabba’s cousins, as the main villains, Rotta could find himself caught in the middle of a Hutt power struggle.

While plot details remain under wraps, the film picks up after the fall of the Empire, with the New Republic struggling to maintain control. Din Djarin and Grogu are once again called upon to restore balance to a galaxy still infested with Imperial remnants. If Moff Gideon or Snoke’s dark legacy is still unclear, but I’m excited to see how the story unfolds.

Directed by Jon Favreau, with Kathleen Kennedy, Dave FiloniAND Ian Bryce producing, the film will feature music by Ludwig Goranssonreturning to the franchise after scoring the original Disney+ series.

The Mandalorian and Grogu It also sets the stage for Filoni’s highly anticipated crossover event film, which will bring together the characters of Ahsoka, The Boba Fett bookand beyond.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released exclusively in theaters on May 22, 2026, shot for IMAX and promising to deliver a thrilling Star Wars adventure.
